Every year, a single tiny shoe belonging to one of the children sacrificed to the snowy mountain is left behind.
Inside it lie the crumbled remains of a dried wildflower placed there by the child's parents as a final farewell.
It is said that parents offer these shoes despite the gut-wrenching agony of facing their child's death, hoping that at least their child's feet will not hurt on the long journey ahead after meeting the mountain god.
